Why We Do It
Our mission is to transform students through authentic business experiences that prepare them for fulfilling, financially secure futures.
Who We Are
VE is an educational nonprofit transforming students into business professionals by bringing the workplace into the classroom. Since its inception in 1996, VE has served over 140,000 students, including many from economically disadvantaged communities.
VE’s team includes a community of educators, business leaders, and post-secondary partners who help guide our mission. We currently support over 15,000 students across 19 states each year.
What We Do
VE works with schools and districts to implement a year-long, credited class that provides students with an authentic, collaborative business and entrepreneurship experience through its live global business simulation model.
How We Do It
Guided by a teacher-facilitator, business partners, and content experts, VE students establish and manage a company that replicates the functions and demands of a real business. VE firms offer diverse products and services—from banking, insurance, and technology to publishing, advertising, app creation, tourism, and fashion. Students produce key deliverables and work in departments—Administration, Accounting/Finance, Sales, Marketing, Human Resources, and IT—that are overseen by a (student) management team and CEO.
VE companies engage in trade with a network of simulated businesses across 42 countries using an online banking system.
The VE Difference
VE’s task- and standards-based curriculum integrates business, entrepreneurship, personal finance, economics, and technology and is guided by the VE Career Readiness Framework. Developed in partnership with industry experts, the Career Readiness Framework captures the key competencies and skills employers seek and students need to succeed in business.
The curriculum incorporates well-developed business and economic concepts that demand academic rigor while addressing interdisciplinary instruction, project-based learning, research, different learning styles, and real-world applications. An end-of-course assessment is available through NOCTI (National Occupational Competency Testing Institute).
VE is aligned with Common Core Standards, National Standards for Business Education (NBEA) and National Standards in Economics.
Students engage in a range of learning experiences inside and outside the classroom that allow them to develop and apply real-world skills. Business and community partners help connect students to industry professionals and the real world of business.
As VE students engage in business and trade across industries, borders, and cultures, they learn the expectations of an evolving workplace and global economy.
87% of VE students surveyed identify career pathways of interest because of VE
Over 6,700 students per year serve leadership roles (e.g. Executives, VPs, Managers,) during their time in VE
50% of all VE schools are identified as economically disadvantaged
